Into The Blue

12-year-old Tatheer embarks on a week-long Police bootcamp for girls from a social housing estate in Copenhagen. Far from home, deep in the woods, she undergoes an undisclosed program of gruelling exercises. As the group learns to tackle violent rioters and disarm gang members, Tatheer battles with shyness while navigating elusive social dynamics. Her personal setbacks ultimately push her out her shell to find her place.

Ömer Sami is a British-Irish-Turkish filmmaker whose intimate, character-led work explores belonging, legacy, and loss of innocence.
His latest film, *Eternal Father* (2023), premiered at IDFA, was nominated for a Danish Academy Award, and will be released by *The New Yorker*. *Into the Blue* (2023) screened at Telluride, Hot Docs, and DOK Leipzig, while his debut short *Sam and the Plant Next Door* (2019) received nominations from the IDA, Critics Choice, and Danish Academy Awards. A recipient of the Danish Arts Foundation’s 2024–2026 “Young Artistic Elite” fellowship, Sami graduated from the National Film School of Denmark in 2023 and is currently developing his first feature documentary.

​After travelling around the world, Nina and Mathieu arrive on a remote Estonian island to spend midsummer with friends. Surrounded by nature and ritual, they begin to confront the emptiness of their desires.

​The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the director.
