My Boyfriend’s Daughter

Essie, a young Chinese-American woman in Manhattan, has been with Karl, a much older divorced father, for more than a year. Yet he still refuses to introduce her to his teenage daughter. Tired of being kept a secret, Essie decides to take matters into her own hands, and her curiosity slowly tips into obsession. Drawing on the French New Wave, the film is a quietly unsettling portrait of love, jealousy and the comfortable lies that hold a family together.

Kathy Meng graduated with a BFA in Film from NYU in 2016. Her thesis film Nanny was a student finalist at Fusion Film Festival, screened at numerous festivals and won the Best Screenwriting and Best Lead Actress craft awards at First Run Film Festival. She has interned with A24, The Weinstein Company and Scott Rudin Productions, and worked in the festival world for Tribeca Film Festival, Hamptons International Film Festival, NewFest, Rooftop Films and DOC NYC. MY BOYFRIEND'S DAUGHTER (2019), inspired by her own relationship with an older man, reunites her with Claire Hsu, the lead of Nanny.
