Copa-Loca

This is the story of Copa-Loca, an abandoned Greek summer resort. Paulina is the girl at the heart of Copa-Loca. Everyone cares for her and she cares about everyone – in every possible way.

“Copa-Loca” is an abandoned summer resort; a ‘wonderland’, that has fallen apart. It evolved from my early memories of summer, growing up in the 90s in Greece. Memories of real instances and imagined ones; sparked from the sensationalised imagery I was exposed to, and from the magically-ambiguous words I would hear from the lips of adults: “Cosmopolitan”, “Mai-Tai”, “Gin Fizz”, “Sex on the beach”. This seemed like the “promised land” of adulthood: a never-ending summer, floating in grenadine, burning under a hedonistic sun. But nothing could prepare you for the winter chills of adulthood – of loss and of separation. “Copa-Loca” is this summer-land, revisited.
